Warrington Rowing Club’s, Mathilde Tavernier, has beaten the British Indoor Rowing Record for the Women’s Junior 11 year old age group.
In a 2 minute timed piece on the Concept II rowing machine, she recorded a distance of 511 metres, beating the previous mark by over 2 metres. More remarkably, this was achieved in an otherwise ordinary training session and not in a competitive environment. Having taken up rowing only last year, she had to race through the whole season at a year above her age group as there was no racing events for her as a Women’s Junior 10 year old.
The record breaker follows up on her success at the British Indoor Rowing Championships in 2010 where, again racing in a category above her age group, she won silver medal behind fellow Warrington Junior rower Rachel Ozsanlav-Harris.
She will be returning to this year’s British Indoor Rowing Championships, on 25th March, as a genuine Women’s Junior 11 year old, where she will be a strong favourite to win and very likely to beat her own record again.

Warrington Rowing Club kicked off the festive holiday season with an impromptu inter-club scratch regatta on Christmas Eve.
Names were drawn from a hat, with a mix of men’s, women’s, juniors, seniors and veteran club members, making up each of the six crews. Great Britain star Olivia Oakes joined in the action and even the club chairman donned his rowing kit for the event.
Racing in Eights, it was a great, and fun, event. There were some very close races and certainly plenty of competitive spirit in evidence. Coxing was not for the feint hearted either, with difficult steering conditions.
Congratulations to the winning crew, Holly McMullen, Daisy Dell, Gael Tavernier, Phil Higginson, Richard Sinnott, Ed Davies, Jess Swindells, Jenny Argent and cox Gwen Tavernier who won the bragging rights for the day.

Warrington Rowing Club crews overcame challenging conditions at the Liverpool Victoria Head of the Float, in the old West Float docks at Wallasey, to take several victories on the day.
With strong winds whipping up a heavy swell, and upper reaches of the course deemed too treacherous, the event organisers were forced to reduce the length of the race to two legs of 700 metres. The club had 15 crews entered for the event, covering all age categories.
The men’s Novice Quad Sculls of Philip Higginson, Dave Jordan, Greg Millar and Matt Holmes, put together in a competitive crew for the first time, took the winners medals in a time of 4:38, beating their nearest rivals by 50 seconds.
Holly McMullen, Alice Bowyer, Deanna Wooler and Hannah Whiteley added to their impressive medal haul for the season with a win the Women’s Junior 16 Quad Sculls, with the fastest women’s quad of the day, in a time of 4:42. Junior 14 Coxed Quads incorporating Ayesha Wooler, Pippa Curran, Elle McLoughlin, Megan Dunbavand, George Davidson, Kieron McCormick, and James Walsh, interchanged between crews to win the medals in two separate categories. The Junior 13 Girls coxed Quads, swept the board in their category. The crew of Rachel Ozsanlav-Harris, Mathilda Tavernier, Isobel Oldland, Georgina Richards and Cox Daniel Lee took the First Place medal with the crew of Sophie Instone, Isobel Oldland, Grace Rooney, Eleanor Davies and cox Gwen Tavernier recording the second fastest time with the crew of Molly Clark, Sarah Whiteley, Dominique Billingham, Eleanor Shroeder close behind in the third place.

There is a break in racing over the Christmas period before the Club is back in competitive action at the Head of the Mersey, a 3600 metre course over 2 legs on the River Mersey.
This is Warrington Rowing Club’s home event which takes place on Sunday 5th February 2012 with the first race starting at 10:00 upstream from the Clubhouse at Howley. All spectators and supporters welcome.

York Small Boats Head (20th November 2011)
21 Nov 2011
Warrington Rowing Club’s Senior Double Sculls duo, Philip Higginson and Dave Jordan, were the sole club representatives at the York Small Boats Head at the weekend. The crew was entered into both the Novice Double Sculls and Masters C Double Sculls events over a 3000 metre course of the River Ouse. Having to contend with racing in successive divisions without a break, a river course they had never rowed before, foggy conditions restricting visibility and in an unfamiliar boat, borrowed from York City Rowing Club for the day, the fledgling crew still had the confidence to tackle the event. In the Novice category the Double managed a respectable time of 13:35. In the Masters C event, and showing great consistency, the pairing clocked a time of 13:27, to finish third in their age category, managing to beat the times of three other crews in the process.

Warrington rower Richard Egington has been crowned a senior world champion for a second time.
The former Lymm High School pupil and ex-Warrington Rowing Club star helped Great Britain’s men’s four to recapture a title they won two years ago on the water at Slovenia’s Lake Bled earlier today, Sunday. And they did it in style too.
Trailing to Australia after the race’s first 500m, the British quartet edged ahead at halfway before a blistering third sector saw them open up a commanding lead. A customary fast finish from Greece, silver medallists a year ago, was not enough to worry Egington’s crew though. Northwich's Matt Langridge, Tom James and Alex Gregory joined him on board.
Victory means the British boat finishes the season unbeaten following two victories in the World Cup series and at Henley Royal Regatta earlier this summer.
They were not headed in the world championships either.
Now, with less than a year to go before the Olympic Games in London, Egington is now well-placed to add to the silver gong he won as part of the men’s eight in Beijing three years ago. The British team has won three Olympics class gold medals in Slovenia, earning qualifying places for 13 of the 14 boats for 2012.
